2008 Season - Week 16

The Hunt for the Papas Fritas

It has suddenly got interesting at the top. 6 weeks ago (just before Trading Day 2) Chief was in the drop zone by 12 points and a massive 90 points behind Wayne. Two weeks later he was 94 points behind Wayne but since then Chief has outscored Wayne all four weeks and after outscoring Wayne by 31 this week the gap is now down to just 18 points. Based on their average weekly scores over the last month Wayne will finish with 484 points and incredibly Chief will finish with 485. The Drop Zone What a time to have a great week and what a time to have a disaster. Mark climbed out of the relegation zone with a huge 48 point effort while Daz also helped himself with a useful 28. But AP had to wait until his kicker scored with 6 minutes left in the first half of the Monday Night Game to get off the schnide. He now sits 5 points adrift of Daz with Mark a further 6 ahead. It looks like 1 of these 3 will join Cheryl and Ron who despite brave efforts this past fortnight seem doomed to relegation with Cheryl 22 points from safety and Ron a further 21 back.. Promotion Fight Prior to the Sunday and Monday night games the top 4 in the Conference were covered by just 8 points. Marcus had finished a 31 point week and moved second with John B and Aaron sharing the third and final promotion spot. Then on Sunday Night DeAngelo Williams scored 4 TDs for John and Brandon Jacobs 3 for Aaron. John also got 8 points from his kicker John Carney. Then Aaron added another TD when Greg Jennings scored on Monday Night Football. The two have opened up a small gap with David S now sitting third, 16 behind Aaron and just 5 ahead of Marcus. It looks like George (362 points) will be staying in the Conference as he is 31 behind the Virgins. Tie-Breaker With everything so close it’s time for a reminder about the Tie Breaking procedure for promotion/relegation spots. If there is a tie the Papas Fritas and Conference Championships would be shared but in order to decide 8th and 9th in the Premiership or 3rd and 4th in the Conference we employ the same system as we use in the post season. That is the Momentum Rule ie the player that scores latest in a game is deemed to have momentum and will beat the person they are tied with. Latest means closest to the final whistle in the game that player is in, not someone scoring in the last game of the season. For example:- the last score a player makes for BUM A comes with 1:55 to go in a 6pm game, the last score a player makes for BUM B comes with 8:47 to go in the Sunday Night game, BUM A wins.
